William Shakespeare (1565-1616) a playwright, poet and writer who lived within the parish of the Cathedral is considered to be the greatest writer in the English language.

This panel taken from the Shakespeare window situated in the south aisle of the Cathedral shows characters from Shakespeare's comedies; Bottom, Puck and Titania (Midsummer Night's Dream), Olivia, Marie (Twelfth Night), Falstaff, (Merry Wives of Windsor), Portia (Merchant of Venice), Jacques, Touchstone (As You Like It).

Figures at the base are part of the Seven Ages of Man as described by Jacques in 'As You Like It'.

This window was designed and made by Christopher Webb in 1954 replacing a earlier version destroyed in WWII.
